» ‘OK Punk’ Turns 2NE1′s ′Ugly′ into Punk Rock

OK Punk, led by actress Kim Ok Bin, took a successful first step with its first showcase.

The project band OK Punk performed its punk rock rearrangement of 2NE1’s Ugly at the showcase and press conference for Mnet’s OK Punk, held on January 19 in Seoul.

Kim Ok Bin made her debut as the band’s vocalist with Devin of N.EX.T and Dr. Core 119, vocalist and synthesizer of Go Go Star Lee Tae Sun, The KOXX’s vocalist Lee Hyun Song, BandToXic’s drummer Kim Seul Ong and Dickpunks’ keyboardist Kim Hyun Woo.

Schizo’s vocalist Heo Jae Hoon was also present as the current producer of OK Punk and Kim Ok Bin’s boyfriend.

The press conference took place after a brief toast with beer, and the band’s members continued on to trip up the press all through the conference with their raw and (almost too) comfortable statements.

Kim Ok Bin said, “OK Punk isn’t for television. There’s a he** lot of swearing. Only about 1/5, or even 1/10, make it into the broadcast. There’s a lot of shocking stuff. When we’re with the members we really crack up.”

Lee Tae Sun added, “I love the crazy producer and the writers.”

Kim Hyun Woo continued by saying, “The people around me told me after watching the show that I was like a big pushover.”

During the conference the members continued to open new cans of beer and show how close they had become by exchanging friendly (?) insults.

The members agreed, “We thought it wouldn’t be easy to gather such individualistic and special people into one team, but the process is so funny and enjoyable. I hope you keep watching to see where we’ll be going in the future.”

Starting with the release of the digital single Ugly, OK Punk plans to release more mini albums and hold concerts in the form of punk rock festivals in the future. Ugly was released on January 20.

An official from CJ E&M’s music department stated, “We’re thinking it’s meaningful to have actress Kim Ok Bin sincerely take on music and not just regard it as a one-time variety appearance together with the Hongdae bands,” and mentioned the team was looking forward to a synergy effect to arise between the broadcast, music and concerts.
